 FAQs

Which areas do you cover?

We cover Devon and most of Cornwall. We are available to travel further depending on distance and our other commitments. Feel free to email us to discuss your requirements.

Do you have your own props?

Yes, we have a large 1940s handling collection and an ever-growing Victorian one, as well as more delicate items we are happy to bring along for display.

Can you provide costumes for children?

Yes, we have mob caps, headscarves and pinafores and flat caps and waistcoats which can be put on over school uniforms. We can also provide aprons and headwear for teaching staff.

What sort of activities do you provide?

As we specialise in domestic history, our primary focus is on the home. Within our two chosen time periods (the Victorian era and 1940s Home Front) we cover a range of subjects including historical recipes, the daily routines of the upper, middle and working classes, housework, the lives of servants, fashion, The Blitz, the lives of children and much more. As we believe hands-on learning with real objects is the best way of engaging with history, our activities include everything from dressing up, to playing authentic games, storytelling, crafting, cooking and more. Visit our Victorian and 1940s home front pages to see our list of suggested activities.

Are you DBS checked?

Yes, both Laura and Pam have Basic DBS checks (Certificate numbers 001253846653 and 001255333005) However, we ask that all our activities involving children and vulnerable adults be attended by a designated guardian or responsible adult.

Do you give talks to adult groups?

Of course, we love to bring Living History to all age groups. If you have a particular interest within our time periods please let us know.

How much do you charge?

For a full day on-site we charge £350 plus mileage, £200 for a half day, including two costumed interpreters, dress-up for adults and children, handling collection and planned group activities. For short talks and presentations, our fee is £50 + mileage. Food demonstrations are priced according to content, length and number of people attending.

Do you attend living history events?

Yes, we regularly attend events as historical interpreters, including RAF Harrowbeer 1940s Weekend, Holsworthy '44, Bude at War and more. We also have a great working relationship with Bodmin Keep: Cornwall's Army Museum and have hosted 1940s Easter and Christmas workshops there.

Do you do food demonstrations?

We love historical food! We have tried and tested a full range of 1940s and Victorian recipes and can provide demonstrations and group activities depending on location and kitchen facilities. We both hold Food Safety Level 2 certificates.
